HELLO! Exclusive: Sonam Kapoor's sparkling affair with diamonds and gemstones

When you think about the most fashionable name in Bollywood, Sonam Kapoor is undisputedly the first to pop up in your mind. From red carpets to runways, she has long held her place as a global style icon, as she loves to experiment with daring, bold styles while spotlighting many Indian textiles and designs globally. Her approach to fashion has always charmed her fans and has cemented her place as one of the It-girls of Bollywood. At the recent Zoya by Titan event in Hyderabad, Team HELLO! sat down with Sonam for a quick yet insightful conversation about fashion, jewellery, style and more. 

Sonam's fashion must-haves 

When asked what her three fashion must-haves are, Sonam was unequivocal: “A white shirt, a good pair of jeans, and heels.” While seemingly simple, these three pieces are versatile and effortless to style. They pair well for all kinds of looks, from fun and casual to businesslike and formal to party girl essentials. It is easy to imagine that the Indian sartorial queen would pick these three as her fashion must-haves. 

Her fashion icon

Sonam has acted as a fashion icon to millions, but who is her fashion icon? Unsurprisingly, it is her mom, Sunita Kapoor. "My fashion icon is my mom," says Sonam while explaining how effortlessly stylish and cool her mom has always been. A former model and a woman of impeccable taste, it's no surprise that Sonam turns to her mother for fashion inspiration. So much so that Kapoor would love to inherit "all of her jewellery" because her collection is simply too iconic to choose only one from it.  

Sonam's taste in Jewellery

Kapoor believes in the ideology that diamonds are her best friends. “I love diamonds,” she confessed while chatting with us. But her taste for jewellery doesn’t end there. “I love the idea of natural stones coming back—like emeralds and rubies,” she noted, her eyes lighting up at the mention of these timeless gems. Two of the most coveted gemstones, Kapoor loves to style rubies and emeralds with her various looks.

Found in many heirloom jewels, these gemstones are created when the minerals are forced together under extreme heat and pressure in the earth. Sonam shares her love for rubies, diamonds and emeralds with many style icons from yesteryears, from Marilyn Monroe to Cleopatra and Princess Diana to Rihanna. 

She further shares that she loves the incorporation of these timeless stones in Zoya's new collection. And if one thing we know for sure, it's that when Kapoor says something is fashionable, we'd better follow.
