From Rani Mukerji to Deepika Padukone, Bollywood mamas are making their children part of their jewellery

There are some things a mother carries quietly, tucked away where no one can see. And then there are the things she chooses to wear close to her heart. For Bollywood’s latest generation of celebrity mothers, the most precious adornment isn’t necessarily a diamond or a rare gemstone, but something far more personal: their child’s name, transformed into jewellery and worn as an intimate emblem of love.

Rani Mukerji made the sentiment especially poignant at the 71st National Film Awards in 2025. As she arrived to receive her first National Award for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, the actor paired her elegant Sabyasachi saree with a delicate gold necklace carrying her daughter Adira’s name. What made the piece even more special was the reason behind it. Adira had wanted to attend the ceremony but was unable to because children under 14 were not allowed at the venue. Rani later revealed that wearing her daughter’s name was her way of keeping her “lucky charm” close on a day she wished they could share. 

Then there is Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who has made Malti Marie part of her jewellery wardrobe in the most unmistakably personal way. The actor was spotted wearing a beaded choker spelling out her daughter’s name while attending a Jonas Brothers concert, turning what could have been a simple statement accessory into something far more intimate. She was also photographed wearing the personalised piece during a Mumbai visit.

Deepika Padukone has taken the trend into her own understated, luxe territory. The actor has been spotted wearing a custom gold necklace featuring her daughter Dua’s name a tiny but unmistakable reminder of the little girl who has become the centre of her world. The delicate “Dua” pendant proves that personalised jewellery doesn't have to shout to make a statement.

There is Sonam Kapoor Ahuja too, who was photographed wearing a pendant bearing her son Vayu’s name. True to her fashion-forward sensibilities, Sonam made the sentimental piece feel just as chic as any other layer in her jewellery stack. What makes this trend so charming is that it moves beyond the usual language of celebrity jewellery. These aren't pieces chosen simply to complement an outfit; they are tiny keepsakes that happen to be wearable. A child's name becomes a charm, a pendant or a chain—and suddenly, something deeply personal becomes part of everyday style.

Kiara Advani, meanwhile, offers an interesting evolution of the trend. After welcoming her daughter Sarayaah, she was seen wearing a necklace that simply read “Mama”. It doesn't carry her daughter's name, but the sentiment is unmistakably similar: motherhood itself has become something worth wearing. Because perhaps the most precious piece of jewellery isn’t always the one that sparkles the brightest or commands the most attention.

Sometimes, it is the quietest piece—the delicate chain, the tiny pendant, the familiar name—that carries the biggest meaning. For these Bollywood mamas, their children’s names have become more than just beautiful details around their necks; they are little reminders of the people who have changed their lives in the most profound ways. After all, trends may come and go, but a mother’s love is one thing she will always want to keep close to her heart.
