If Wednesday Addams were born in an era where Goth went glam, she'd look exactly like Jenna Ortega on the Emmys red carpet. Safe to say that Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday Addams in the titular Netflix show, Wednesday, channelled just that. In a creation from Sarah Burton's first collection for Givenchy as the new Creative Director, Jenna Ortega flipped the switch on the rules of naked dressing in a bijouterie-inspired bustier teamed with a black column skirt.
After three decades at Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton's design language at Givenchy is a subtle nod to the late couturier, and we see it clearly on this creation, worn by Jenna Ortega, too. The bustier, inspired by a broken chandelier, is crafted strategically using vintage jewels interlocked together to conceal and reveal just enough. The black maxi skirt paired with the bustier is the perfect juxtaposition of maximal and minimal. That isn't to believe the star didn't dare to bare there either. The maxi skirt with a high slit proves she meant business on the red carpet. Although the bustier shone with a personality of its own, minimal accessories were used as finishing touches to the ensemble, including simple drop earrings and black platform heels.
How can it be that Jenna Ortega was to go goth glam without the perfect makeup and hair look to complement it? A red carpet devoid of drama, that's what. Her makeup look included understated smoky eyes with shades of ash grey and gunmetal, paired with a sculpted contour, chocolate brown lips and bleached brows. She ditched the characteristic long black braided pigtails of Wednesday Addams for her raven-esque hair to be styled in a messy low bun with face-framing strands. With everything put together, it would be wrong not to name her the showstopper of the evening.
If Jenna Ortega came to shut down the Emmy red carpet, that's exactly what she did.
