A delicious, buttery yellow has claimed the throne of the colour of the season. Fall saw cherry red as its hottest shade; and by winter, brown was our new favourite colour. Spring has decided that this utterly buttery shade, which reminds us of the table spread, will be a go-to when it comes to both; dressing yourself and your home this season.

LV2024

After popping on Louis Vuitton’s spring 2024 runway, the shade has gone viral with designers, decorators and celebrities. It has been spotted everywhere, from red carpets to runways.

It started strong with multiple appearances at Paris Fashion Week. The colour graced the runways of fashion trailblazers such as Alaia, Chanel and Chloé, during the spring/summer 2025 shows. The trend largely resonates with boho chic fashion, which was evident in Chloé’s runway looks that perfectly complemented bohemian style.

Pro tip: butter yellow makes for a great colour to replace beige when picking neutral tones. It pairs well with earthy neutrals, moody blues, and electrifying neons, fitting into the closets of both, minimalists and maximalists.

The colour is reminiscent of comfort. "It’s the golden hour woven into fabric,” says Maheka Mirpuri of her namesake fashion atelier based in Mumbai. “Butter yellow has an innate ability to uplift and energise. It embodies the golden glow of a crisp spring morning – warm, nostalgic, yet refreshingly modern. There’s a quiet confidence to it.”

“It complements a wide range of skin tones and adds a glow to any look,” adds Reema Anand of Reema Anand Label. “It has a classic quality, like beige or white but with more personality and warmth giving it a timeless appeal.”

The colour has been donned by almost everyone: Pop stars, influencers, royalty and other fashionistas. Sabrina Carpenter wore this colour while performing for the Governor’s Ball 2024. Hailey Bieber's Jacquemus dress for her baby shower featured the shade. Other notable names to wear it in recent past include Rihanna, Kate Moss and Katie Holmes.

Its creamy, ethereal softness has attracted Bollywood stars to it as well. Khushi Kapoor picked a saree by Irth in this stunning shade.

“As accessories, it works wonderfully as a statement piece, bringing a pop of colour without being too bold,” explains Dipti Advait, founder and creative director of Nouria. We have been seeing many bags and scarves popping up in the shade.

Women and men seem to love the colour alike. “Most guys would shy away from yellow altogether,” shares Arun Kumar, head of design at Rare Rabbit, “But butter yellow is different; it’s warm, subtle, and adds a touch of sophistication without being too loud. It has a relaxed, effortless vibe that’s easy to work into various looks, from casual tees to more polished pieces or accessories. It brings just the right amount of brightness and freshness to an outfit without feeling out of place.”

This may be one of the reasons why Timothée Chalamet embraced a butter yellow suit when attending the Oscars 2025 as a nominee for the best actor. “It is a refreshing way to add a pop of colour that feels effortless to style," adds Arun.

Apart from fashion, the colour has made its way to home decor as well. Fashion and interior have always gone hand-in-hand. In recent years where minimalistic style has dominated fashion, interior designs have also taken a similar approach. Now that fashion is stacking up with butter yellow, home decor is turning to it as well.

“The colour exudes warmth and subtle vibrancy, making it an ideal choice for creating inviting spaces,” explains Minnie Bhatt of Minnie Bhatt Designs, an interior studio based in Mumbai. “When combined with earthy tones like soft greens, warm browns, and muted terracottas, it enhances a connection to nature, offering a balanced and soothing feel.”

According to Saba Kapoor, co-founder of Nivasa Design House, "the colour evokes a sense of quiet sophistication while maintaining a lively, welcoming energy. It stimulates creativity, making it ideal for both living and working spaces, and pairs beautifully with natural materials like wood, linen and stone.”

“It works—across seasons, spaces, and styles,” adds Natasha Jain, co-founder of decor brand Nateilier by Bent Chair. “It instantly adds approachability and softness to any space. In bedrooms, it promotes relaxation and gentle warmth.” It's no passing trend, according to her; “It's here to stay for a while, as its adaptability makes it a staple in both modern and classic interiors.”

With its sunshine feel and calm-evoking feel, the colour is sure to make its way into all our hearts, homes and closets.
