Tucked inside the Fairmont Mumbai, Oryn isn’t just another fine-dining restaurant; it’s an escape into another era. Stepping through its doors is almost an entry the golden age of 1920s Shanghai, where cinema, glamour, and intrigue reigned supreme. The result is an experience that blurs the line between theatre and dining, inviting guests to lose themselves in bold flavours, rich storytelling, and an ambience layered with nostalgia and spectacle.

Dishes don’t simply arrive on the table here; they enter with smoke, sizzle, and flourish, sparking conversation before the first bite. Drawing from Sichuan and Cantonese traditions, the menu marries heritage with contemporary artistry. Think tableside-carved Peking Duck, Imperial Seafood Sui Mai crowned with caviar, and Smoked Chili Pomfret paired with Shaoxing wine. Every plate is steeped in ritual and performance, encouraging sharing and slow savouring at the table.

The storytelling continues at the bar, where the cocktail program is built around the ancient Chinese philosophy of Wu Xing — the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Drinks like the duck fat-washed Peking Duck cocktail or the earthy Buried Ore balance whimsy with depth, turning each sip into a small act of theatre.

Designed by P49 Studio with art installations by Venu Juneja, Oryn’s interiors are every bit as cinematic as its cuisine. Velvet drapes, gilded accents, and vintage cinema relics evoke the decadence of Shanghai’s picture houses. Juneja’s embroidered cranes, koi fish, and a beaded wire-mesh dragon infuse layers of poetry and myth, while vintage tiffin boxes and silk knots nod to the shared spirit of Asian dining.

Beyond the main dining room lies Beyond Oryn - a glasshouse terrace, lush and serene, with views of planes taking off and landing nearby' truly a reminder that journeys are always in motion. By night, Oryn transforms again: live DJs, moody lighting, and a buzz of celebration turn it into a lively hub that feels both timeless and contemporary.

Oryn at Fairmont Mumbai transforms dining into a cinematic journey, blending the bold flavours of Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine with the glamour and intrigue of 1920s Shanghai. From theatrical tableside dishes to artful cocktails and opulent interiors, it’s an immersive escape where every detail tells a story, dining becomes a cinematic journey, and every guest, a part of the performance.
