It's one of those weekends when the blankets feel extra warm, the mattress feels a lot softer, the rhythm of the rain acts like a lullaby, and even the occasional honking of the cars down the lane feels like a distant echo. A rainy weekend in August always brings warmth with it that keeps us chained to our beds and sofas, curled up in a blanket or two, with hot chai or coffee warming our palms. Weekend plans can wait for another weekend as the world slows down to the downpour. The only thing that can make this day better (besides a hot bowl of ramen) is an exciting watchlist that adds an equal amount of cosy comfort in the room.

As the last weekend of August approaches us the best weekend plans await you on your screens. Scroll below for the perfect weekend watch list for when it rains.

1. Gilmore Girls

We may not experience the autumn like Lorelai and Rory, our leaves don't turn red as often, but the chilly wind of Mumbai in monsoon is the closest we can get to the cosy aura of Stars Hollow. The sweet little show is all things comfort, nostalgia and escapism wrapped in one. From the coffee from Luke's diner to the fresh treats from Sookie, to the extravagant meals whipped up by Emily's staff, every frame of the show radiates warmth. But nothing will quite warm you up like the mother-daughter bond that the Gilmore Girls share.

Watch on Netflix.

2. The Great British Bake Off

As the name suggests, the Great British Bake Off is a reality TV show about participants competing for the title of the UK's Best Amateur Baker. Unlike other reality TV shows, this is a calm and serene one.  The show’s charm starts with its setting: a picturesque white tent set amid the idyllic English countryside. It's the perfect lull in the background when you want to do nothing but be embraced in the warmth of a lazy day.

Watch on Amazon Prime.

3. Bridgerton

Name a better way to spend your weekend than seeing Johnathan Bailey's Anthony Bridgerton pine after Simone Ashley's Kate Sharma. Period set pieces, extravagant ballroom settings, captivating gowns, soothing pastel colour palette, and the violin adaptation of our favourite tunes—Bridergton has it all. The stern voice of Lady Whistledown spilling the tea on scandulous love affairs and the queen's never-ending quest to find her delivers moments of humour, whereas the slow-burning romances between our favourite pairs amount to the perfect dash of drama. Nothing like Bridgerton to accompany your rainy days.

4. F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

A true classic for a reason, this is one '90s show that we can never have enough of. Even though the TV show vastly lacked diversity and had many jokes that have lost their humour now, the show is still unmatched when it comes to showing the true meaning of, I will be there for you. The pack of six friends— Chandler, Joey, Monica, Rachel, Phoebe and Ross—time and again prove that in a world that's out to get you, your friends will always have your back.

Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime

5. Heartstopper

When it comes to LGBTQ-centred TV shows, you will find many harrowing tales full of tears and tragedy. Heartstopper is a breath of fresh air in a sea drowning in sorrow.  The show focuses on queer joy and comfort rather than its trauma, acting like a bright light in a room full of shadows. Charlie (Joe Locke), Nick (Kit Konnor) and their friends are providing each other a safe space and a community to individuals who feel alienated from the rest of the world.

Watch on Netflix

6. Emily In Paris

Call it cheesy or corny, Emily in Paris is one of those shows perfect for a rewatch when you want to surround yourself in feel-good energy. All may not always be well in Emily's world, full of stern bosses and disastrous romances, but she still finds a reason to smile and emerges triumphant from every fix she finds herself in. Don't we all need a little bit of that positivity in our lives?
