Meet the Gen Z royals redefining modern monarchy

While their titles may be inherited, these Gen Z royals are forging their own identities through a variety of talents, interests, and ambitions. From runways to extreme sports, these royals are stepping far beyond palace walls. Well-educated, globally minded, and caring about the public they serve, this generation brings a modern twist to traditional values.

1. Princess Leonor of Spain, 20 years

Leonor, Princess of Asturias, is the eldest daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. She will soon become Spain's first reigning queen in over 150 years. The princess has completed three years of military training, receiving the officer position in all three: the army, navy, and the air force. She plans on attending the Charles III University of Madrid, where she will earn her bachelor's degree in political science.

2. Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, 24 years

The Eldest child of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, the Duchess of Brabant, will be Belgium's first-ever queen regnant. The Crown Princess Elisabeth recently completed her master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University. Prior to this, she studied History and Politics at Lincoln College, Oxford. She also trained at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels and was sworn in as a commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Belgian Armed Forces

3. Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, 22 years 

As the eldest child of Crown Prince Haakon and the second child of Crown Princess Mette-Mari, she represents the fifth generation of the Norwegian royal family, sitting in the House of Glücksburg. After completing her 12 months of military service with the Combat Engineer Battalion in Brigade Nord, she moved to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Sydney, Australia, focusing on international relations and political economy. Aside from her royal duties, Princess Ingrid Alexandra also loves skiing and water sports 

4. Count Nikolai of Denmark, 26 years

Born into the Danish royal family, Count Nikolai of Monpezat is the eldest son of Prince Joachim and Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg, and is sixth in line to the Danish throne. After briefly attending a two-year military programme with the Royal Danish Army, he chose to pursue Business Administration and Service Management at Copenhagen Business School. Nikolai made his runway debut for Burberry at London Fashion Week in 2018 and has since built a successful modelling career. He has also ventured into acting with the film adaptation of Doktor Glas and works as a consultant in the property division of the Confederation of Danish Industry. 

5. Sawai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur, 28 years 

Maharaja Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur, also known as "Pacho," is the son of Princess Diya Kumari and the head of Jaipur's former royal family. He completed his education at New York University, studying Art History. A prominent polo player, he has captained the Indian national polo team at Hurlingham Park and won nearly 100 competitive polo titles. Padmanabh has also modelled for luxury brands such as Dolce & Gabbana and Giorgio Armani.

6. Princess Aiko of Japan, 24 years 

Princess Aiko is a member of the Imperial House of Japan and the only child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako. Due to Japan's succession laws, which only allow male heirs to inherit the Chrysanthemum Throne, she is not in the line of succession. Princess Toshi studied Japanese language and literature at Gakushuin University and currently works at the Japanese Red Cross Society. Inheriting musical talents from her family- her father, Emperor Naruhito, a violist; her grandfather, Emperor Emeritus Akihito, a cellist; and her grandmother, an accomplished chamber musician- she too is a cello player.
