It turns out that even royalty 'borrow' from their mothers' closets. Princess Isabella of Denmark proved that to us at her birthday gala. Daughter of King Fredrick and Queen Mary, Princess Isabella is the second in line to the throne, after her elder brother, Crown Prince Christian. It also makes her the first princess in the line of succession after the birth of a younger brother. For her 18th birthday, the royal family of Denmark held a gala performance at the Danish Royal Theatre on 15th April, 2025. Three generations of the royal Danish family were present to commemorate the occasion; namely, the princess's parents and her siblings – Crown Prince Christian and the twins, Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent.

Naturally, the royal family was decked from head to toe. Their outfits complemented each other in shades of black, white and navy. For her 18th birthday, Princess Isabella looked nothing short of glamorous. She donned a navy gown by Jesper Høvring, a Copenhagen-based couture designer and paired it with her mother's diamond fringe earrings. It's proof that even royals raid their mother's closets every now and then. Queen Mary purchased the respective earrings at an auction in 2016 and has since worn them numerous times, earning the status of one of her favourite pairs of earrings. Her hair was styled in a sleek bun while she opted for smokey eye makeup paired with lip gloss.

Queen Mary wore a black and white gown and added dazzling diamond jewellery for the event. The queen wore a brooch, a necklace and a pair of earrings from the Danish jewellery vault. King Fredrick and the princes opted for sharp-looking tuxedos with bow ties. While he matched the princess's navy blue ball gown with his navy tux, the prince chose a black-coloured tuxedo. Princess Isabelle's younger sister matched her in a navy blue Jesper Høvring jumpsuit with embellishment along the border.

This wasn't the first instance when Princess Isabella borrowed something from her mother's closet. For her first 18th birthday celebration held at Aarhus City Hall, she wore her mother's blouse and hair clips for the occasion. Isabella chose a powder blue suit from Soeren Le Schmidt, a Danish designer with bracelets by Cartier, Hermes, and Ole Lynggaard. The Ellen Hunter hair comb she used to bind her hair belonged to her mother.

In the past, she has also worn her mother's white silk blouse. It was previously donned by the queen at a reception for the King's Medal of Merit recipients at the Royal Castle in Oslo in April 2024.
