When we think of a monarch who had an extraordinary impact on the world of fashion, Princess Diana's name is the first one to come to mind. From being influential enough to have designer bags like the Lady Dior and Gucci Diana named after her to dressing up in athleisure before it was a trend, the people's princess was a fashionable force in fashion who was far ahead of her time. Even today, it's something that her daughter-in-law recognises
Princess Kate has taken plenty of inspiration from her late mother-in-law's looks over the years, especially while attending to her royal duties. Earlier this month, while attending an event, Princess Kate wore a polka dot outfit, which appeared similar to one of the most iconic white polka dot dresses worn by Princess Diana. But it was her latest inspiration from Diana's style that turned heads. Kate attended the naming ceremony of Glasgow HMS in Glasgow, alongside her husband, Prince William, while wearing a nautical outfit similar to one her late mother-in-law wore.
Kate Middleton was dressed in a Suzannah London coat dress, trimmed in white with a matching hat by Philip Treacy. She accessorised her outfit with a pair of diamond and sapphire drop earrings and her famous engagement ring; both gifts from her husband which once belonged to his mother. She wore a pair of beige suede pumps and added a silver military brooch to her outfit. Her hair was styled in a twisted low bun.
Her outfit was reminiscent of what Princess Diana wore in 1993 while attending a service in Liverpool for the 50th anniversary of World War II’s Battle of the Atlantic. She opted for a similar dark blue dress with white stripes and gold buttons with an oversized dark blue and white hat and pearl earrings.
Kate isn't the only to one to pay tribute to Diana's looks. The late princess' other daughter-in-law, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has also revisited her royal look book plenty of times. Princess Diana is the ultimate source of inspiration when it comes to dressing elegantly; something her daughters-in-law cannot seem to get enough of either.
