This year's Cannes Film Festival had some new rules in place: no nudity, no long trains, and no voluminous couture; making it all about pared-back, relaxed fits. This carried on to the beauty looks as well. Gone are the days when Cannes saw bold lip colours, bejewelled eye makeup and heavy eyeshadow. While minimal makeup and clean girl aesthetics have been popular since 2021, the trend hadn't reached the red carpet of international events like the Oscars and Cannes in the past as red lips and smokey eyes were very much still visible on such coveted red carpets.

However, the wind has changed this year, as majority of celebrities started wearing nude lips and soft eyeshadow; even to major events such as the Golden Globes, Oscars and now, Cannes. For the uninitiated, clean girl beauty emphasises natural, understated beauty. These kinds of beauty looks have a barely-there kind of vibe; even a full face of glam is subdued to look as natural as possible. From Rihanna to Bella Hadid, radiant celebrities from Hollywood and Bollywood have green-lit this kind of makeup even on the red carpet. This year at Cannes, we saw them embrace flushed cheeks, glossy lips and brushed-back brows. Keep scrolling to see the best minimal makeup looks that we can't wait to recreate.

After debuting her baby bump at the Met Gala, Rihanna walked her first red carpet since she announced her third pregnancy at Cannes alongside her partner A$AP Rocky. She stunned in a sky blue gown while opting for simple makeup and she bronzed her cheeks and opted for nude lips to go along with it.

2. Else Hosk

Elsa Hosk opted for a neutral makeup palette. Her take on minimalism entailed rosy brown lips and bronzed cheeks, but a soft and subtle smokey eye was the real winner of this look.

3. Dakota Johnson

With her signature bangs framing her face, the Materialist actress picked a pink-toned makeup palette, with a sheer lip liner and lip oil adorning her lips, while her cheeks were coloured in a rosy pink shade.

4. Halle Berry

As a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival this year, Halle Berry walked the red carpet multiple times, and her love for minimal makeup shone through each time. Peach-flushed cheeks and glossy pink lips were her choice of poison when it came to the actress's makeup looks.

5. Bella Hadid

The biggest statement-making piece for Bella Hadid at Cannes this year was her new blonde hair. As for her makeup, she opted for a striking eye look by covering her waterline with sharp black liner on a background of tonal brown eyeshadow. Her cheeks were bronzed in a shade of caramel, while her lips were painted in a shade of soft brown nude.

6. Amal Clooney

Amal Clooney was a vision in an archival Galliano gown, which made head turns at the red carpet. She paired her black dress with a soft, peach-toned makeup by opting for rosy eyeshadow and coral lipstick.

7. Emma Stone

If there was one person who took the clean girl aesthetic to heart this year at Cannes, it was Emma Stone. Her combed-back hair featured a middle partition, and as for makeup, she chose a sheer look, with minimal foundation, rosy pink lips and a soft peach flush on her cheeks. She opted for thin eyeliner to place emphasis on her eyes.

8. Nitanshi Goel

The 17-year-old actress walked at the Cannes film Festival spotting a minimal makeup look, allowing her Papa Don't Preach couture to do all the talking. Her lips were painted in a soft pink nude, while she opted for peach-toned blushed cheeks.
