What makes Anya Singh so unapologetically authentic

Born in London, bred in Delhi, and destined for Mumbai, Anya Singh’s short stint in Bollywood so far — peppered with web series and movies that reflect her wide-ranging repertoire — has made her a favourite among the young-adult crowd. A self-proclaimed “greedy actor,” a romantic at heart, articulate to a fault, and a diehard animal lover, the 33-year-old earned the spotlight through her portrayal of Sanya Ahmed — the resourceful, contract loving talent manager — in The Ba****ds of Bollywood (2025), following appearances in a number of high profile projects, including Stree 2 (2024) and Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (2023).

Believed to have been scouted by a casting director at a Delhi café in 2016, she got her first role in a Yash Raj production, Qaidi Band (2017). Anya favours putting up a nuanced performance over unduly theatrical impressions, allowing silence and subtle micro expressions to convey complex emotions. She has a knack for portraying characters that exude youthful relatability as well as intensity — her recent act as Sudha Rawat in Border 2, opposite Ahan Shetty, a testament to her versatility. A commendable feat for a relative newcomer, Anya has the proven ability to strike a balance between character-driven depth and a sense of vulnerability that’s ready to be moulded for stronger on-screen portrayals.

And over the years, she has earned praise for being able to hold her own on screen. Being a “greedy actor” has nothing to do with her paycheck — Anya is hungry to work with an array of filmmakers. While her wishlist has — but isn’t limited to — Zoya Akhtar, Rajkumar Hirani, and Shoojit Sarkar, she has an interesting perspective on working with debutant directors. Having worked with Arjun Varain Singh [Kho Gaye Hum Kahan] and Aryan Khan [The Ba****ds of Bollywood], she loves the clarity new filmmakers come with. Next seen in a TV mini series titled Suit Yourself, Anya’s candour online makes her a favourite among brands, as well. And audiences wait with bated breath to see what she has in store next both for the big screen and small.
