Ten years is too long for a wait, but at least Beyoncé made it worth the while when she returned to the Met Gala after her long hiatus. And in a way that she knows best.

Beyoncé put the costume in the "Costume Art" theme of this year's Met Gala in a mammoth skeletal creation by designer Olivier Rousteing, the former Artistic Director of Balmain. Her long-standing association with the designer, given his repertoire of structured, embellished works for her on and off the stage, made this an obvious choice for her much-awaited return to the Met Gala, this time as the co-chair.

Made atop a net base with an accurate shade match to her skintone, the gown features a skeleton design embellished with diamonds from top to bottom and all the way to the sleeves. The strategic design conceals and reveals with balance and contrast. The skeleton design falls perfectly in the purview of the theme that interprets dressing the human body. However, there's more drama that follows the red carpet look; the voluminous, feathered ombré cape that takes up as much space as Beyoncé's aura in a room.

Her accessories elevated her look even further. She wore a celestial crown headpiece over her honey-blonde finger wave hair and diamond jewellery from Chopard, because this pop queen loves her sparkles. With no sign of Americana in sight, it's safe to say her Cowboy Carter era has come to an end, for another one to look forward to.

Her makeup, with blush tones and frosted highlights on the high points of her face, complements rather than overpowers her statement red carpet outfit.

This appearance marks her first red carpet appearance of the season, where she is joined by her family to make the whole experience extra special, in anticipation of what lies ahead for her (and her fans). One thing is certain, though. Beyoncé loves a surprise. And so do we!
