Kareena Kapoor has had a trajectory unlike anybody else in Bollywood; and we aren’t talking about her pathway in the film industry alone. From fashion to motherhood, the star has carved out a niche for herself; one that may not have necessarily followed trends but definitely went ahead to set them. Her diet and fitness choices too, have ensured that.
Nearly two decades ago, when Tashan hit the box office; the movie made national headlines; not for its plot but for Kareena’s drastic body transformation. Her waif-thin build made the term ‘size zero’ a startling trend across the nation. Kareena had called the change in her physique for the 2008 movie role a “challenge for her genes” but since then, her approach to fitness and health has progressed; thankfully, for the better.
Not only has the actress come to be more comfortable in her own skin and size, fitness has become a cherished part of her routine for its many wellbeing benefits, and not just for how it alters her figure. Recently, her fitness trainer Mahesh Ghanekar, spoke to HT about how Kareena, now 44, makes fitness a priority. He said, "Kareena has been working out with me for over two years, but for the last five months, we have built consistency. She has been doing strength training with me at least four times a week—2 days on, 1 day off. It gives the body time to recover.”
Giving the audience a more detailed look at her fitness regimen, he added, “We train for an hour, sometimes more, and do 14 to 15 variations per session. It is all High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), but she is fully present and ready to take on any challenge. That's what makes it fun. Her weight has dropped from 67.5 kgs to around 64 kgs. We are targeting another 2 to 3 kgs. Kareena has also reduce inches from her biceps and body, in general. Weight training is working very well for her and she can feel the strength growing”
In her recent interview on The Nod, Kareena also spoke about her diet and lifestyle habits, saying that “one proper Indian meal a day” was “non-negotiable” for her, while she also eats dinner at 6:00pm and hits the hay at 9:30pm.
It’s refreshing to see how Kareena’s health and lifestyle choices have evolved, not simply for vanity, but now also for wellness.
