Mumbai is ready to host one of its most anticipated cultural evenings as the second edition of the MASH Ball arrives at The St. Regis on October 5, 2025, in support of UNICEF India. Conceptualised and hosted by Shalini Passi—philanthropist, art patron, and founder of MASH—the event is a landmark moment where art, cinema, design, and humanitarianism converge.
A platform that redefines luxury by intertwining creativity with cause, the MASH Ball is dedicated to reaffirming its commitment to children’s rights, development, and creative empowerment. As the official note reveals, “In a celebration of artistic expression and humanitarianism, the MASH Ball champions creative and collective action for vulnerable children across India.”
Where art meets advocacy
Curated by Shalini Passi, the evening will feature a stellar lineup of renowned artists and designers such as F.N. Souza, Raghava K.K., Narayan Biswas, Ashiesh Shah, and Michelle Poonawala. These artworks represent the richness of India’s art and design heritage while also serving as powerful mediums of social commentary.
One of the highlights of the showcase will be Souza’s Untitled (1964) from his famed “Head” series—an oil-on-board exploration of the human face as a symbol of frailty and survival, both sacred and grotesque. Michelle Poonawala’s AquaVitae (2024) offers another profound moment, reminding viewers of water’s role as the “very essence of survival and spirit.”
Adding an international layer to this year’s edition is a self-portrait by Rocco Ritchie, son of Madonna and Guy Ritchie, generously donated to benefit Art be A Part’s outreach and education programs with UNICEF India. As Medha Nanda, founder of Art be A Part, explains: “Art is a powerful tool of self-expression and communication. Through our initiative SpArK (Special +Art+Kids), we support equitable and inclusive education for children, especially those with special needs.”
A cause beyond celebration
While the glamour of MASH Ball is undeniable, its true essence lies in its philanthropic foundation. The proceeds will support Art-Based Therapy (ABT)—a vital program helping children navigate trauma and psychological stress through creative engagement—and Early Childhood Development (ECD), which ensures children have access to education, nutrition, and care in their formative years.
Shalini Passi has also donated 100% of her remuneration from her appearance on Netflix’s Fabulous Lives Vs Bollywood Wives to UNICEF India, further underscoring her commitment to the cause. For those who caught the show, glimpses of the Ball’s Delhi debut offered a taste of its grandeur—an indication of what Mumbai can expect this year.
Fashion x Films: A night of glamour
This year’s theme, “Fashion in Films,” promises an evening where style and cinema entwine in spectacular ways. Guests can expect couture inspired by silver-screen drama, experimental silhouettes echoing film history, and bold red-carpet statements. With Mumbai as the stage—and Bollywood’s presence almost certain—the evening will be nothing short of cinematic.
At the helm, Shalini Passi herself will embody the theme with her signature sartorial finesse. Known for her couture-forward choices and love for statement design, she is expected to don one of her finest ensembles, setting the tone for a night where fashion becomes both performance and narrative.
More than a ball
Described as “an evening like no other” in the official announcement, MASH Ball is set to gather industrialists, artists, designers, philanthropists, and changemakers under one roof. With UNICEF by its side, the event demonstrates how the worlds of art and advocacy can come together to amplify impact and safeguard children’s futures.
Ultimately, the MASH Ball is more than a celebration; it is a movement of luxury with purpose. By transforming creativity into a channel for change, Shalini Passi has created a platform where culture, compassion, and couture shine equally bright. On October 5, as Mumbai’s skyline sparkles, the St. Regis will host not just another glamorous evening, but a night that reminds us that the most powerful luxury lies in giving back.
