It's not easy to go against the tide when you're a celebrity. But the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle left no stone unturned to redefine the rules of royalty after her successful Hollywood career. With her cooking show's upcoming season in the works, she continues to rewrite the narrative of what it means to be a modern woman.
Who doesn't love a good celebrity show?
The Duchess of Sussex offers a sneak peek into her lush and royal life outside the royal setup on With Love, Meghan; away from Hollywood and the obligation of duties at Kensington Palace.
Imagine waking up to the sounds of birdsong everyday in your plush farmhouse and creating delicious dishes with farm-fresh produce for your friends and family. That's Meghan Markle's life as displayed on the show and for everyone to see. Now, who doesn't love binging on a good celebrity show?
After stepping back from royal duties five years ago, Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, have settled into a quiet life in California with their two kids. The show comes ahead of the Suits star releasing several products, such as fruit preserves from her new lifestyle brand, "As Ever".
With Love, Megan is a cooking and lifestyle show wherein Meghan Markle introduces us to her favourite dishes to cook, harvests fresh produce from her garden, and makes handmade goods from easily available ingredients at home. The show is set in a picturesque California mansion and depicts Meghan's daily life in a way that is both realistic and inspiring. The show centres on subjects that Meghan has long been enthusiastic about; home, family, food, and personal growth.
Meghan Markle introduces us to simple and easy dishes that she cooks for herself and her family. These dishes include a one-pot tomato pasta, quiches, focaccia bread, a rainbow-shaped fruit arrangement, a crudité platter, skillet spaghetti, pies and quiches using the eggs hatched by her chickens, a naked cake, and salted baked fish with herbs, among other kitchen favourites.
In addition to cooking, she also engages the viewers through her process of creating floral arrangements, setting a sophisticated table, and creating a calm and relaxed atmosphere. For her, creating a home that is warm, welcoming, and intentional is very important. She engages in this philosophy by creating handmade articles such as candles with leftover wax from beehives, scented with essential oils. She makes handmade gifts for her near ones, such as dog biscuits from bacon. She writes her menus while hosting a brunch in careful penmanship, such gestures grounded in thoughtfulness.
She speaks about the importance of slowing down, embracing small rituals, and living in a way that nurtures both self and others. Her show inspires viewers to see the beauty in simple everyday moments and to live their own lives with the same level of intention and care.
The duchess’s fashion choices are one standout feature of the show. She frequently sports a button-down shirt and straight-leg jeans, and occasionally a basic T-shirt is thrown in the mix. The British sensibilities she has are displayed through several of her outfits. Most of her ensembles are pared back, simple, sophisticated yet elegant. The styling choices of her outfits make even beige look interesting.
Instead of the usual stand-and-stir format, the show opts for a conversational approach. Meghan does a lot of cooking while chatting with friends, such as Mindy Kaling or Abigail Spencer, with whom she co-starred on Suits.
At other times, she collaborates with experts like Alice Waters, the creator of the farm-to-table movement, and professional chefs such as Roy Choi, Alice Waters and Ramon Velazquez. Other celebrities who make an appearance include the likes of influencer and socialite Delfina Figueras, the founder of the beauty brand Tatcha, Vicky Tsai, and Victoria Jackson, founder of the new brand ‘no makeup makeup’. Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, a literary agent, and fashion designer Tracy Robbins make a joint appearance. We also get a special appearance from Prince Harry in the last episode.
Meghan Markle is keeping things real on her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. Lucky for us, we're also getting a glimpse of delicious goodness straight from her kitchen.
