A timeline of Emily Blunt and John Krasinski's romance since they met in 2008

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski have both, a successful marriage but also a wonderful professional partnership where they've made magic on-screen together. The couple, who have been together since 2008, share two daughters and several producer credits too. Emily Blunt is famous for her many iconic movie roles, from The Devil Wears Prada to Edge Of Tomorrow. John Krasinski is best known for his role in Steve Carell's The Office, where he played lovable goofball, Jim Halpert and later, Jack Ryan in the Tom Clancy-based TV show. As the couple's recent joint appearances at the 2025 U.S. Open with their family and the TIFF 2025 red carpet have got them making headlines all over again.

Here's a look at the complete relationship timeline of Emily and John, which is one of the most successful partnerships in Hollywood.

2006: Krasinski had a crush

In a 2016 interview, John revealed that he developed a crush on Emily after watching The Devil Wears Prada, prompting him to see the movie over 70 times. “I said, ‘Yes,’ and she said, ‘How many times?’ And I said, ‘A lot.’ She said, ‘What's a lot?’ And I said, ‘75 times,’” he said. “I'm lucky enough that she stayed with me and didn't realise that she had really married her stalker!”

2008: The first meeting 

Two years later, John met the woman from the screen in real life, through his friend Justin Theroux in Los Angeles. "It's kind of a lame story," Blunt recounts while sharing the story of how they met on Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2018. "I was in a restaurant; he was in the restaurant. I was sitting with a mutual friend. And my friend Gray goes, ‘Oh my god, that's my friend John.’ And that was it. He was sitting with our friend Justin Theroux, and he abandoned Justin and came over to us. He just stood there and made me laugh.”

2009: Engagement 

After a year of dating, Blunt and Krasinski got engaged. While the couple kept most of the details to themselves, Krasinski told Access Hollywood that he was really nervous at the time. He revealed that they both cried. In 2021, on an episode of iHeartMedia's River Cafe Table 4 podcast, Blunt revealed that she had made Ina Garten's “engagement chicken” recipe at the time. “I guess I just made something that I knew he would love,” she said. “A roast chicken – who doesn't love roast chicken?”

2010: Just married 

A year after the engagement, they tied the knot at George Clooney's home at Lake Como, Italy; at Clooney's insistence. For the ceremony, Blunt wore a Marchesa gown and a three-carat round diamond-and-platinum ring by Neil Lane.

2011-2013: Happily in love

While making an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2011, Krasinski shared that he "wasn't really looking for a relationship" before he met his now-wife. “Then I met her and I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh god, I think I'm going to fall in love with her,’” he shared. “It's one of those things where as soon as you meet someone, you kind of know.” During her cover interview with InStyle in May 2013, Blunt shared, “Meeting John really changed my life. When I feel the support that I have from him, I feel invincible. There's someone behind you on your good days and someone in front of you on your bad days.”

2014-2016: Birth of their daughters

On February 16, 2014, Emily gave birth to their first daughter, Hazel Grace. Krasinski announced her birth on X, then-Twitter, in a post that read, “Wanted to let the news out directly. Emily and I are so incredibly happy to welcome our daughter Hazel into the world today! Happy bday!” Their second daughter was born in June 2016 and Krasinski announced it on July 4; American Independence Day. “What better way to celebrate the 4th...than to announce our 4th family member!!! 2 weeks ago we met our beautiful daughter Violet. #Happy4th,” he posted on the platform formerly called Twitter.

2017-2021: A Quiet Place 

In March 2017, Krasinski announced the making of A Quiet Place via an Instagram post. “Question: ‘John, who's the one actor you've been wanting to work with?’ Answer: (see above),” he wrote in the caption. The movie debuted in 2018. During the promotion of the movie, Krasinski told People how he was enamoured by his wife's work ethic. “We could be announcing our divorce right now if it did go the wrong way,” he joked. “I've never loved my wife more than after we did this movie. For me, it was a trust thing. We trust each other in day-to-day life for sure, but when you trust each other in this way, it's different.”

Blunt went on to win a SAG award for her performance, and thanked her husband during the acceptance speech. “I am going to share this completely with my husband, John Krasinski, because the entire experience of doing this with you has completely pierced my heart directly. You are a stunning filmmaker. I am so lucky to be with you and to have done this film with you.” After the success of the first movie, a sequel, A Quiet Place II was announced in July 2019. The movie was later delayed due to the pandemic. The movie went on to spawn an entire franchise with a hit sequel which released in May 2021, a 2024 spin-off called A Quiet Place: Day One and plans for a third-part to the film series for a 2027 release.

During the pandemic, the couple also celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary in 2020. 

2023: The best gift 

While being interviewed for Harper's BAZAAR UK, Blunt shared that the best gift she had ever gotten came from her husband. “I will say, my husband has bought me some amazing and thoughtful, deep gifts,” she said. “He got me a vintage cello. I played the cello as a kid. I'm so ashamed to play it now, but I do love it. And I love that he got it for me.”

2024: Jim and Pam

During the award season for Oppenheimer, Emily opened up that fans of the cult-favourite show, The Office, hassled John and her about their relationship. On the Variety podcast, she shared, “Do you know how many people still yell out, ‘I wish you were with Pam!’ like when I’m walking next to him?” She shared many experiences where fans wished Jenna Fischer, who played the role of Pam was married to her husband. “Where’s Pam?” ‘I’m like, “She’s not here!”’ says Blunt. Despite the harassment, she said that the pair is close with Fischer. "We love Jenna!" she exclaimed.  

2025: Family time out 

On September 7, 2025, Blunt and Krasinski attended the U.S. Open with their daughters, Hazel and Violet. The family was spotted courtside at the Men’s Singles final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, in New York, where Alcaraz took home the trophy. The happy family also smiled and waved for the cameras at the stadium.

The next day, Krasinski was present at the premiere of his wife's new movie, The Smashing Machine at TIFF 2025. Blunt opted for a risque strapless black ensemble with a sheer lace cutout and low-rise striped trousers, while Krasinski opted for a tailored grey suit and black tie.
