From Sabrina Carpenter to Doja Cat, 6 fashion highlights from the 2025 VMA red carpet

The 41st MTV Video Music Awards 2025 took place in New York today and was hosted by rap legend LL Cool J. While Lady Gaga led the night with 12 nominations, she came out victorious with four wins, including best collaboration for Die With a Smile, sung alongside Bruno Mars. Both, Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter took home three 'moon man' trophies for their respective artistry while Mariah Carey was honoured with the year's Video Vanguard Award and Ricky Martin; with the VMA’s first Latin Icon Award. But it wasn't just the music that stole the spotlight at this starry showcase. With the likes of KATSEYE making their VMA debut and FKA Twigs turning heads like it was her side hustle; style too, was served generously on this red carpet. 

Here's a look at the 6 fashion highlights at the 2025 MTV VMA red carpet.

Doja Cat, who performed an 80s-inspired version of Jealous Type with Kenny G, sported a Balmain harlequin-patterned mini dress in shades of lilac and lemon, with an off-shoulder neckline and pink bejewelled embellishment down the front. It belonged to the label's 2024 pre-fall collection and was paired with a Judith Leiber Seductress Crystal Lipstick Clutch, costing around $6,000 or Rs 5,00,000.

Ariana Grande was dressed by image architect Law Roach in a Fendi ensemble which print mixed polka dots in a black and white strapless column-silhouette gown with a voluminous peplum detail high on her waist. It was a custom creation that was based on a similar-looking gown worn by Silvia Venturini Fendi in the 1980s.

Sabrina Carpenter's personal boudior-esque style extended to the VMA red carpet as she wore a shimmering red lace gown from Valentino with a high neckline and long sleeves, with a lilac fur boa draped around her waist.

Girl pop band KATSEYE made their debut at the event, in co-ordinated Dolce & Gabbana ensembles. In a palette of black, silver and blush, their mini-silhouetted looks of dresses, pantsuits and corsets complemented each other without being excessively matched.

Lady Gaga, who had a concert simultaneously at Madison Square Garden, brought out her Mother Monster persona on the stage in a black ruffled gown with a circular hemline, which came with a floral headpiece and black tulle detail.

Ricky Martin received the debut honour of the night and was styled by Douglas VanLaningham to wear a black flared trousers and a pastel blue shirt left open, which showcased a Rahaminov Diamonds necklace with a 12-carat brown diamond.
