The Gen Z fashion girls often can't help themselves when it comes to reviving a controversial trend from the past; much to the dismay of millennials. After baguette bags and velour tracksuits, it's capri pants that are taking over. These quintessential 2000s pants were deemed sartorially controversial past the 2010s, to say the least. Previously associated with a disjointed style aesthetic sported by an entire generation, they are now steadily finding their way back into Gen Z closets. Celebrity fashionistas, from Khushi Kapoor to Hailey Bieber, are hard at work bringing back a trend which doesn't exactly have pleasant associations for the previous generation.

The latest celebrity to hop on the capri pant trend is Selena Gomez, who was spotted leaving a cooking class with her fiancé, Benny Blanco. She was all smiles in a black top and cardigan, paired with a blue three-quarter denim combo with a pair of black ballet flats.

Cropped capri pants are one of the most polarising trends to come out of 2000s fashion. Instead of the pleasant whiff of nostalgia, it's mild chagrin many are experiencing after seeing this trend make a slow but steady comeback in celebrity look-books.

While millennials might hate them the most, capri pants go way back to the 50s and 60s, when they gained overnight success after appearing on Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina in 1954. They were revived again in the late 90s and early 00s, thanks in part to Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw styling them in Sex And The City.

During the 2000s, they were as an essential which made their way into almost every closet, for every need possible. Rihanna slayed capris on the red carpet and Britney Spears wore them on a casual day out. Now, all the new age it girls, from Bella Hadid to Kendall Jenner, have been spotted wearing them, pointing at a resurrection that cannot be stopped.

Capri pants are designed for long-legged women with a tall frame so they may appear unflattering on body types who aren't lean and lanky. Now while many may disregard capris as ones which are not ideal for their body type; when styled right, capri pants can suit almost any body type—yes, even those with a short stature.

While it may be easy to make up your mind on the basis of this, before you do, consider the chic and retro appeal they bring to the sartorial world. When paired with polka dots like Hailey Bieber, these pants give you the chance to live that 70s styling dream. This versatile pair of pants goes with anything and everything. You can easily use them for both, on and off-duty looks when paired with the right top. Channel a Parisian vibe by pairing capris with cardigans.

Alternatively, pull off the corp-core diva look by going for an oversized business shirt. Or add capri styles to your athleisure profile akin to Kendall Jenner. Take inspiration from Amelia Dimoldenberg and pair your capris with a printed tee for an easy look. Or go the luxe way like Khushi Kapoor, who paired her Lady Dior with a pair of capri pants, making it a match made in early 2000s heaven. Get inspired by this Bella Hadid look and pair your capris with a crop top.
