The Indian roll call at the Met Gala has never looked better. Shah Rukh Khan, Bollywood's biggest superstar, has been added to the guest list to mark his debut at the coveted event. For the theme, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," the dress code is "Tailored For You," a nod to the exhibition's focus on menswear and suiting. He will be seen in a bespoke, tailored Sabyasachi creation. Despite innumerable international appearances in Shah Rukh Khan's successful 33 years as a Bollywood actor, this is his first Met Gala appearance. Shocking for some, given his global presence, but a wait that is worth it. The partnership between India's most famous superstar and ace fashion designer is worth every penny's bet on it for all fans to see. Two masters of their fields, one epic night of fashion, what's not to love?
As tradition, the Met Gala will celebrate the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's spring exhibition. The focus of this year's exhibit will be on the political and aesthetic constructs of Black dandyism. The exhibit draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller's 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The exhibition is organised into 12 sections, each representing a characteristic that defines dandy style and Black history. Year after year, the world has witnessed artistic interpretations of the themes and dress codes displayed at the gala. To nobody's surprise, this year's dress code is surely set to bring out the sartorial creativity of the attendees. With Shah Rukh Khan's elevated sophistication and Sabyasachi's maximalist sensibilities, the best of both worlds will collide to make this collaboration of a lifetime, as historic as it gets.
Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour will co-chair the 2025 Met Gala, with LeBron James serving as an honorary chair. The 2025 Met Gala will also have a host committee in an attempt to revive a tradition from past years. The committee includes notable names like Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Edward Enninful, Tyla, Usher, Janelle Monáe and André 3000. Author Monica L. Miller will also serve as a guest curator for the show, working alongside Costume Institute Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton.
Bollywood's influence has been massive on the world platform. International red carpets are no longer exclusive to Hollywood stars. Shah Rukh Khan's charisma is captivating. In 2024, he was honoured with the Pardo alla Carreira Ascona-Locarna Tourism at the 77th edition of the Locarno Film Festival held in Switzerland for his contribution to cinema and his impact on boosting the country's tourism through his films. The Met Gala red carpet and Bollywood's glitterati are no strangers. Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra have all walked down the iconic stairway. Kiara Advani, who is pregnant with her first child, will also make her debut at this year's Met Gala alongside Shah Rukh Khan. For the Indian audience, there's a lot to look forward to.
With the Met Gala season almost upon us, all eyes are on Shah Rukh Khan as he will walk the red carpet as the first Indian male actor to attend the exhibit. We're certain that with his suave personality and Sabyasachi's flair of style, it'll be a sight to see.
