Dawn has not even broken yet and this day has already proved to be a momentous one for Bollywood. This first Monday of May, which is in the wee hours of Tuesday (IST), is when the Met Gala 2025 is currently unfurling. A slew of Bollywood A-listers, including Shah Rukh Khan and Diljit Dosanjh, have chosen this edition, with the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” to debut on the famous international red carpet. Bollywood actress Kiara Advani is one of this year's Indian debutants.
Pregnant with husband Sidharth Malhotra and her first child, Kiara Advani made her debut at the 2025 Met Gala, which she marked as the first Indian actress to grace the Met Gala carpet with her baby bump. For the esteemed moment, she chose a couture creation by renowned Indian designer Gaurav Gupta, that gleamed with grace and grandeur. The Gaurav Gupta creation, titled Bravehearts, featured a black gown with exaggerated cold shoulder sleeves and a flowing black and white panelled train encircling her frame.
Made with sculptural precision, the gown came with a multi-piece antique gold breastplate which featured the forms of a Mother Heart and Baby Heart. Both adorned with crystals and ghungroos, they were linked by a gold chain, which symbolised the invisible bond of the umbilical cord between mother and child. Kiara's look was also a nod to André Leon Talley, who was a fashion editor and Black icon, whom Anne Hathway, Lewis Hamilton and Colman Domingo also paid tribute to through their Met Gala night looks.

On the incredible moment in time, Kiara Advani says, “Making my Met Gala debut at this point in my life, as both an artist and a mother-to-be feels incredibly special. When my stylist, Anaita, approached Gaurav to design my look, he created 'Bravehearts', a vision that honours the transformative phase I’m stepping into connecting it beautifully to this year's dress code ‘Tailored for You.’ Inspired by the legacy of André Leon Talley, we reflected on what it means to show up with intention, individuality, and strength. This is a silent tribute to that — it’s a reminder that everything we do paves the way for the next generation.”
The Met Gala has been a global stage for celebrities to debut their baby bumps and announce their pregnancies to the world. While Kiara is the first Indian actress making this landmark move, Karlie Kloss has also showcased her third baby-to-be while Rihanna chose the hours before the event to also announce her third pregnancy.
