It has been a milestone year for Janhvi Kapoor. Her short career spanning a few years went global early this year with her debut at the Cannes Film Festival for the movie Homebound, starring alongside Ishaan Khatter. We also witnessed her momentous film festival entry as a stylish one. In continuation of her prolific Bollywood film star persona with an international flair, she arrives at the Toronto International Film Festival with stylish gusto.
Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor is seen in a bespoke custom-designed ensemble replete with floral motifs embroidered with Kashmiri aari work. A resham saree, made with colours inspired by the motifs of the iconic Jamavar, which she has paired with an antique Jamavar shawl featuring hand-made silk resham tassels from the stylist's personal collection. The ensemble is the perfect display of the celebration of Indian heritage and culture in a way best highlighted by the enduring legacy of Kashmiri textile traditions. Completing the overall ensemble is a vintage men's Jamavar jacket from the 1980s, which was upcycled and embroidered by the legendary couture duo. Although in earthy tones, Janhvi Kapoor stands statuesque in a fine display of Indian craftsmanship and shines along with it.
The accessories are yet another display of what India has to offer. Carrying the Kashmir focus beyond the attire are Dejhur-inspired silver earrings from Apala by Sumit. Known for their traditional meets contemporary flair, the brand brings their signature style in the form of these statement earrings, reimagining the traditional bridal ornament as a contemporary homage to heritage. One overlooks the footwear and often chooses a comfortable addition. Not this duo of Janhvi and Rhea Kapoor on the red carpet. Sure, comfort is important, yes, but so is style, and none of it was compromised for this appearance. In embroidered platform heels crafted specially by the designers that perfectly match, complement and provide adequate height for the saree to appear with finesse, Janhvi Kapoor was ready to walk all over this big moment, not tippy toe.

Much has been said about her striking ensemble, and rightfully so, but neglecting the balancing act by her beauty choices would be wrong to do. Even though the subdued hairstyle - a middle-parted, sleek, low bun and soft, warm tones for her makeup with a clear complexion trump other glamorous styles the young star is known for, the decision was intentional. The idea was to channel elegance that complements the attire, and not overpower it. The choices paid off.
With so many more milestones to carve out for herself, one can only expect this to be the beginning of a very stylish global journey for Janhvi Kapoor.
