Rihanna is rewriting the rules of maternity fashion and we're so here for it

The internet was abuzz within minutes when Rihanna and A$AP Rocky announced their third pregnancy by debuting her baby bump at the Met Gala earlier this month. Minutes before making an appearance at fashion's biggest night, the Umbrella singer was spotted in a Miu Miu ensemble sporting, what many assumed, was a baby bump. This fact was later confirmed when the 37-year-old pop star walked the Met red carpet later that night. 

However, it seems that pregnancy won't stop Rihanna from stealing the spotlight at red carpet events. Recently, at the AWGE fashion show in Paris, France, the mother of soon-to-be three took her youngest son, Riot, to see dad A$AP Rocky's show. She was dressed in her best, a long, pin-striped shirt with a pleated skirt, and heels paired with socks. Unconventional for any other mom-to-be, but the usual for this popstar who continues to defy maternity wardrobes. 

Not to forget, her sheer, feminine, bump-baring Chanel dress for the Smurfs promotional tour in Belgium. 

Rihanna was earlier seen walking towards the Dior Spring-Summer 2026 show before this, hand in tow with A$AP Rocky to witness Jonathan Anderson's debut show after he moved to the legacy house as the Creative Director. For the show, she was seen sporting a light green waistcoat with a delicate train, layered over an unbuttoned crisp white shirt and paired with a double-faced quilted jacket embroidered with flowers. 

She also walked with her partner, A$AP Rocky, at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 on day 7 of the 78th edition of the prestigious event. The celebrity wore a sea blue ensemble while stepping out to support her man for his new movie Highest 2 Lowest, which premiered at the festival, where Rocky stars alongside Denzel Washington. 

Shortly after their red carpet appearance, the two were seen going on a date. The Fenty beauty mogul was dressed for the occasion in a bold black cutout dress with a thigh-high slit that flaunted her baby bump. This audacious look of hers had the world rethink the usual maternity fashion choices. 

Generally plain and drab, maternity style has less to do with style and more to do with concealing the bump. From loose and flowing dresses to XXXL-sized T-shirts, maternity fashion hasn't ever been all that fashionable. A vehement rebel to those standards, Rihanna debuted yet another look for expectant mothers to swear by, and this isn't her first time challenging the norm. 

For her past two pregnancies, the pop star has always chosen gallant outfits that most people sporting a bump would shy away from. Take the stars' Met Gala after-party look, for example, when she walked in wearing a jet-black set by Ann Demeulemeester's Spring 2025 collection paired with lace-up boots and a bandana. Her unbuttoned shirt was a chic way for the singer to place the spotlight on her baby bump. 

Take this white mesh bodysuit for example: bold and beautiful, it's everything that the superstar stands for. 

During her first pregnancy, the actress stepped out showing off her baby bump in a Barbie pink jacket and light blue jeans that she accessorised with a long pearl chain and an embellished cross. 

The popstar has been an enigma in everything she does, from her inclusive beauty brand to now, boldly rewriting the rules of maternity fashion.
