Come September 2025 and New York City's famous Lincoln Center will play host to a one-of-a-kind celebration of Indian arts and culture. Patron of the arts and Indian heritage, Nita Ambani, is set to bring the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) experience to the world stage. From September 12 to 14, 2025, the NMACC Weekend will highlight the grand cultural wealth of India through music, dance, fashion, wellness, and food.
The upcoming cultural event will unveil a new chapter in Ambani's ongoing dedication to promote Indian art forms. The head of the Reliance Foundation has led many charitable and cultural projects. In fact, her love for Indian traditions began much before she launched Mumbai's NMACC in 2023. This year, Nita’s dream is set to go global.
The event has been planned as a three-day cultural celebration that celebrate the rich heritage of India. It kicks off with the Grand Swagat, a special night with a fashion show by esteemed designer Manish Malhotra. His showcase will spotlight Indian handlooms and crafts under the Swadesh brand. Celebrity chef Vikas Khanna will be curating a unique dining experience for the evening, by taking inspiration from regional Indian dishes and giving them a gourmet twist. After the opening party, the Lincoln Centre will host several shows headlined by Indian talents. These include concerts by popular singers Shankar Mahadevan and Shreya Ghoshal, along with sarod expert Rishab Sharma.
The main event of the weekend is The Great Indian Musical: Civilization to Nation. This large-scale theatrical production tells the story of over 7,000 years of Indian history. Feroz Abbas Khan directs the show, which first appeared during NMACC's launch. It boasts of more than 100 performers dressed in stunning costumes against eye-catching set designs.
The event, which is in line with Nita Ambani’s aim to make Indian culture accessible to global audiences, will transform Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center into an open-air cultural fair for the public. Visitors can expect yoga sessions led by wellness expert Eddie Stern, Bollywood dance workshops conducted by Shiamak Davar’s team, a panel discussion on India’s cricketing legacy, and a Swadesh pop-up featuring artisans and handicrafts flown in directly from India.
“This initiative is about placing India’s artistic legacy on the world map,” Ambani said during her recent visit to New York. “Lincoln Center felt like the right venue to showcase not just our talent, but our soul.”
Nita Ambani revealed that she will also take to the stage herself on the opening night and perform a classical dance piece; an emotional experience that will depict the journey she has taken from a young Bharatanatyam student to a classically-trained performer.
From performing in a temple as a teenager to performing at Lincoln Centre, this is a full-circle moment for someone who has spent many decades supporting and growing Indian culture. Tickets for the NMACC Weekend in New York are expected to go on sale by the end of June 2025, with additional programming details to be announced in the coming weeks.
