The monsoon may see dreary skies and gloomy weather but it also happens to be a bright time for the Indian art scene. While it rains outdoors, inside galleries across the country, there’s a brand new crop of exhibits opening to the public and artists showcasing their new work. If you’d like to step out and soak in the spirit of design in your city, take a look as HELLO! scopes out what is hot in the art world across India right now.
Bringing together 14 artists who work across multiple techniques, Original Shadows showcases a diverse range of printmaking techniques, including etching, woodcut, lithography, serigraphy, and mezzotint in their exhibition in Gurugram. Each piece reflects meticulous craftsmanship, requiring precision, patience, and a balance of technical mastery and intuitive touch. In contrast to today’s fast-paced world, the exhibition highlights the quiet intensity and tactile richness of this labour-intensive art form. Through a contemporary lens, the artists; including Aditi Singh Shekhawat, Narendra Kumar Sain and Narendra Kumar Sain, honour traditional methods while pushing boundaries with bold, modern expressions.
Original Shadows by Art Incept is showing until August 30, 2025 at Art Incept, DLF Phase 5 in Gurugram.
Renowned contemporary photographer, Rohit Chawla’s creativity sparked at the unlikeliest of times: under rainy grey skies, on Goa’s Ashwem beach during the pandemic. During the vulnerable period, he turned his lens towards the stray dogs on the deserted beach that mirrored his own vulnerability. Chawla described this period as “the quietest, introspective work I’ve done,” capturing the bleak monsoon skies and focusing his frame around the local dogs on the shores. Through his photographs of canines, humans and landscapes, he explored themes of isolation, survival, and the quiet resilience of forgotten lives through Rain Dogs. Now also a coffee table book, the exhibition of his photographic work is open to the public in Mumbai and Goa.
Rain Dogs is showing at 47-A, Girgaum, Mumbai until August 3, 2025 and opens on August 17, 2025 at Museum of Goa in Pilerne, Goa.
