King Felipe, Queen Letizia and Princess Leonor celebrate Spain's historic FIFA World Cup 2026 win

Spain's historic FIFA World Cup 2026 triumph over Argentina wasn't celebrated by millions of fans alone. The country's royal family was also present in the stands, proudly cheering from the stands as La Roja lifted its second FIFA World Cup trophy. King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, and Infanta Sofía travelled to the United States for the final, continuing a long-standing royal tradition of supporting Spain's national football teams on the biggest stages. The family arrived at New York New Jersey Stadium dressed in coordinated shades of red, reflecting Spain's national colours. Their appearance came just days after they shared a celebratory video wearing personalised Spain jerseys following the team's semi-final victory over France, a gesture that resonated with football fans across the country.

King Felipe had been one of Spain's biggest supporters throughout the tournament. Earlier in the competition, he attended Spain's group-stage match in Guadalajara, Mexico, and also took part in a special campaign unveiling Spain's 26-man World Cup squad. After Spain secured their place in the final, the monarch had promised the players he would return if they made it all the way; a promise that he kept. 

The final also marked the first time King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, and Infanta Sofía attended a men's World Cup match together as a family. Inside the VIP section, the Spanish royals were joined by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and several world leaders and dignitaries.

The royal family joined the victorious Spanish players on the pitch, congratulating members of the squad and taking part in the jubilant celebrations. Queen Letizia and Princess Leonor were seen celebrating alongside the players as Spain completed one of the most memorable moments in the country's sporting history. 

For King Felipe and Queen Letizia, the triumph carried a sense of history. The couple had also witnessed Spain's maiden FIFA World Cup victory in South Africa in 2010, when Felipe was still Crown Prince. Sixteen years later, they returned to celebrate another world title, this time alongside their daughters, symbolising a new generation of royal support for Spanish football. In recent years, Queen Letizia and Infanta Sofía attended Spain's victorious FIFA Women's World Cup final in 2023, while Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía represented the royal family at the UEFA Women's Euro final in 2025.
