Everything you need to know about the Met Gala 2025

The world's most sought-after costume party of the year is just a few weeks away. The Met season is almost upon us, which means our favourite celebrities already have their costumes in place (or so we think). As we wait with baited breath for the best-dressed celebs to walk down the iconic stairway, we dig deeper into the theme of the year and the people in charge to make this year's show memorable. 

THE THEME 

The Met Gala 2025 will continue to hold the tradition of being held on the first Monday of May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Monday, 5th May, will host the costume exhibit themed, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," drawing inspiration from Monica L. Miller's 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The exhibition is organised into 12 sections, each representing a characteristic that defines dandy style. The exhibition will feature garments, paintings, photographs and other works by artists such as Torkwase Dyson and Tanda Francis—all exploring styles of Black dandies from the 18th century to the present day. 

THE DRESS CODE 

The dress code of the exhibit, even though in compliance with the theme, may not necessarily have the same title. The Met Gala 2025 dress code is "Tailored for You," a nod to the exhibition's focus on menswear and suiting. Year after year, the world has witnessed artistic interpretations of the themes and dress codes displayed at the gala. To nobody's surprise, this year's dress code is surely set to bring out the sartorial creativity of the attendees. 

THE HOSTS 

Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour will co-chair the 2025 Met Gala, with LeBron James serving as an honorary chair.

The 2025 Met Gala will also have a host committee in an attempt to revive a tradition from past years. The committee includes notable names like Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Edward Enninful, Tyla, Usher, Janelle Monáe and André 3000. Author Monica L. Miller will also serve as a guest curator for the show, working alongside Costume Institute Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton.

THE GUESTS 

The Met Gala welcomes over 450 attendees across various fields. Young and veteran stars and paragons of the fashion, arts and sports world unite to celebrate this historic moment in the making. Some expect the return of the regulars, others anticipate the debut of fresh faces. Given A$AP Rocky's contribution as co-chair to this year's gala, Rihanna is most likely to return. Celebrity stylist Law Roach confirmed Zendaya's presence at the gala. With Bollywood's growing influence in the world, celebrities from this part of the world will set out to make their presence known. While Alia Bhatt may not have confirmed her plans for this year, soon-to-be mom Kiara Advani will make her debut at the esteemed event.
