When it comes to Halloween, no one does it quite like Hollywood does. While the general consensus is for eerie witches and ghoulish demons, some of them choose a different path. With elaborate transformations and a keen eye for detail, celebrities have turned the spooky season into a red carpet spectacle with clever pop culture tributes through their costumes. Over the past few years, stars have pushed the boundaries of creativity, turning Halloween into a night of nostalgia, and cinematic flair with costumes from the world of cinema, TV, music and more popular mediums. Whether it’s Gwyneth Paltrow’s darkly humorous Se7en homage or Lizzo’s take on Marge Simpson, HELLO! India lists some of the most talked-about pop culture Halloween costumes by Hollywood celebrities.

Kim Kardashian and her daughter North West walked back into the 90s with their recreation of Cher and Dionne from Clueless in 2024. Kim rocked the iconic yellow plaid skirt suit and socks, while North picked Dionne’s black-and-white number with a hat.

In one of the wittiest pop culture nod to a movie she starred in, in 2017, Gwyneth Paltrow and husband Brad Falchuk recreated the final scene from Se7en, where Paltrow’s character meets a grim fate. Falchuk donned an orange prison jumpsuit, while Paltrow cleverly wore a cardboard box labeled “Fragile,” which was a reference to the line, “What’s in the box?”, which was actually her character's head.

In 2022, Lizzo transformed into The Simpsons’ matriarch, Marge from TV's iconic longest-running animated show. With Marge's classic towering blue hair and yellow body paint, the costume was complete with a green sequin dress and a red pearl necklace.

Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber channeled early-2000s reality TV with their homage to the Y2K-era show, The Simple Life in 2024. Dressed as Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, the two recreated the show’s promotional imagery down to the puppy.

Cardi B brought DC Universe’s botanical villain to life in 2019 with her sultry take on Poison Ivy. Draped in green latex and flowing red hair, she embraced the seductive power of the Gotham anti-heroine.

Khloé Kardashian dressed in a family-friendly costume as Cruella de Vil, with her daughter True in an adorable Dalmatian outfit in 2019. With her monochrome wig, exaggerated hat and stole, Khloé’s look was one of the reasons why the Kardashians are considered as Halloween royalty.

In 2024, Halle Bailey paid homage to her namesake, Halle Berry’s iconic Bond girl; Jinx from Die Another Day. In an orange bikini and white belt, she perfectly recreated the legendary beach scene.

In a full-circle pop culture moment, Paris Hilton transformed into her long-time friend Britney Spears, donning braided pigtails, a knotted blouse, and knee-high socks from the 1998 hit music video, “...Baby One More Time.”

Kourtney Kardashian and her husband Travis Barker took on Tim Burton’s gothic classic characters when they dressed as the ghostly groom, Beetlejuice and his gothic bride, Lydia Deetz in 2024. The couple recreated the film’s wedding scene with Kourtney in a voluminous red lace gown and veil while Travis opted for wild hair and a crimson suit.
