In Bollywood, celebrities turning entrepreneurs is not uncommon. The fitness buffs expand into the protein bar arena, the wellness girlies showcase athleisure they do their suryanamaskars in and the perfectly-put-together beauty mavens promise that that their makeup lines will finally lend that coveted glow. Tamannaah Bhatia may be the newest celebrity entrepreneur on the block but she's not the kind of girl who plays it safe; whether that involves mixing baggy denims with carats of diamonds or launching a fine jewellery line while the rest of the celebrity sphere sticks to beauty products, wellness drops and fashion lines. In a chat with HELLO! India, Tamannaah shares the decision-making process behind creating her brand, the trend she can't get enough of and more.

HELLO! India: Most celebrities have ventured into beauty and fashion. What made you turn to fine jewellery?
Tamannaah Bhatia: For me, the thought of doing business isn't about being 'just another celebrity brand'. My father has always been a businessman and jeweller for many, many years. I’ve watched him do this for a very long time. Getting ready can be a very overwhelming and tedious process. So I felt like Tamannaah Fine Jewellery is my expression of how everyday dressing can actually become a lot more convenient by adding the right kind of better basics.
HELLO! India: Gold, diamonds or coloured gemstones—which would you pick and why?
Tamannaah Bhatia: I think I am somebody who loves stacking. You will find me wearing a tennis necklace with diamonds in our split bezel setting, and you will also find me wearing a tennis piece with emeralds. I’m a big fan of mixing stones together and wearing them casually. I don’t think emeralds are meant only for a wedding, an anniversary, or a party; they are actually meant daily. I wear my emeralds and diamonds really casually, and hopefully I can take people through how to do that.

HELLO! India: If a woman can buy one type of jewellery today, what do you recommend she should buy?
Tamannaah Bhatia: When you buy fine jewellery, it’s really important to buy pieces that can transcend time. Clothes are something you can keep buying every few seasons, but fine jewellery, once you buy it, is something that stays with you and then stays beyond you, as well. The point is to choose pieces that actually reflect you and create pieces that work within your life and truly service your lifestyle and whatever you need on an everyday basis.
HELLO! India: What's an underrated jewellery trend you can't get enough of?
Tamannaah Bhatia: I truly believe that day diamonds are something India hasn’t seen as much. Of course, they’re celebrated internationally, but my whole goal with Tamannaah Fine Jewellery is to bring that to people—to bring T-shirt diamonds to people, to bring day diamonds to people.
