1. Añejo tequila

Aged in oak barrels, this style of tequila offers layered flavours of vanilla, caramel, toasted oak, and gentle spice. Smooth on the palate, it commands to be sipped slowly with loved ones who simply deserve the best.

Pair it with: Roasted meats, spiced nuts, or dark chocolate for a luxurious dining experience.

2. Spiced rum cocktail

Mix a good-quality spiced rum with ginger juice, lemon, honey, and fresh orange slices, and the concoction will reward you with bright aromas and gentle sweetness. Add saffron for subtle floral complexity and a beautiful golden hue.

Pair it with: Roasted root vegetables and smoky kebabs, making it a great addition to an outdoor party.

3. Mulled wine

Few drinks capture the spirit of winter better than mulled wine. Give this classic beverage a fruity twist by adding an Australian Malbec to the mix. The red wine’s brambly fruit flavours balance the heat from the mulling spices, resulting in a soothing, cosy drink.

Pair it with: Charcuterie, roasted chestnuts, or holiday bakes to infuse your winter evenings with warmth and wonderful aromas.

4. Red wine

Full-bodied red wines with a higher percentage of alcohol are excellent companions for cosy winter evenings. Amarone della Valpolicella brings intense flavours and a velvety texture. Barossa Valley Shiraz offers bold dark fruit, pepper, and spice, while California Zinfandel pleases with notes of ripe berries.

Pair it with: Lentil soups, slow-braised meats, and aged cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorino.

5. VSOP or XO cognac

A well-aged VSOP or XO Cognac reveals elegant notes of vanilla, oak, dark chocolate, dried apricots, and subtle coffee. Its silky texture and lingering finish urge you to enjoy it neat. This is a drink for late-night conversations around a bonfire, when the evening grows quieter and more reflective.

Pair it with: Creamy cheeses, caramelised onion tartlets, and honey-glazed roast chicken.

6. Cream-based liqueurs

Cream liqueurs flavoured with coffee, chocolate, or seasonal fruits like strawberry and orange offer pure indulgence this season. Rich, smooth, and comforting, they can be enjoyed neat, over ice, or blended into dessert-style cocktails. These liqueurs are perfect for winding down at the end of a celebration, when plates are cleared, hearts are full, and no one is quite ready to say goodnight.

Pair it with: Chocolate truffles.
